Forged Brunch Banner

Is there anything more indulgent than a lazy brunch on a slow Sunday morning? Enough tasty food to leave you feeling pleasantly sleepy, maybe a couple of mimosas to help wash it down, and hours spent in good company. Or maybe you fancy a good feed before a big day up the mountain – enough wholesome, filling food to keep you going until last lift? Or perhaps you’re here for the legendary apres scene, in which case you’d better get started early with a boozy brunch (and maybe skip the skiing…just this once!).

Luckily for us, every day feels like Sunday here. And that means you have endless opportunities for memorable brunches in Whistler. But where to begin? While some of the top brunch spots are well known, others are tucked away and could escape you. But don’t worry, Forged staff have done some intensive research (you can thank us later, it was tough). So here are our top 10 brunch spots in Whistler to get your weekend off on the right foot.

When it comes to brunch in Whistler – we’ve got it covered.

Elements

A consistent favourite with locals and visitors alike, brunch at Elements is not to be missed. While in the evenings it’s an upscale tapas bar (and well worth checking out), during the day Elements offers their own interpretation of traditional Canadian and American breakfasts. Think sumptuous Eggs Benedict served on artisan bread, fluffy frittatas with chorizo and pepper jack cheese, or of course our favourite, the french toast like no other. If you’re looking for something a little more upmarket, Elements is a great choice and doesn’t break the bank either. Plus, they source local meat, fish and cheese, and have plenty of options for vegetarians too. It’s first come first served though, so get their early and fill up before your first laps.

Fifi’s Bistro

Fifi’s feels classy, and that’s because it is. The bright and airy little bistro in Upper Village is tucked away from the crowds, but it’s definitely worth the trip. Luckily, they serve have all-day breakfast options available until 4pm, so even if you want to catch the first lift, you can fit in a post-ski trip to Fifi’s. If you want the full experience though, come before 12pm, while their full breakfast menu is available. For those with eyes bigger than their belly, try the Big Breakfast – a bit of everything, and guaranteed to get you through the day. Or if you’re looking for something lighter, all of their bruschetta are delicious (our favourite is the goats’ cheese and heirloom tomato). Plus, you can grab something from their in-house bakery to take away for an afternoon snack.

Earls

Earls is the perfect place to start your apres early with a boozy Whistler brunch. Their classic brunch menu has all your favourites – from eggs benedict to waffles and cream, to a mega portion of steak and eggs on garlic bread if you want to treat yourself. But more importantly, their brunch drinks menu is almost as big as the food menu. Choose from the go-to apres ski Aperol Spritz, a boozy Baileys coffee or the classic Earls Caesar. Don’t plan to get too many laps in after a lazy Earls brunch – in fact, we wouldn’t blame you if you found yourself whiling away the afternoon here until Happy Hour kicks off at 3pm. Oh, and a little locals tip: get there before 11am and you’re in for the best brunch deal in town – $10 for any meal.

Dubh Linn Gate

You probably know the Dubh Linn Gate as one of the best places in Whistler to see in the early hours of the morning, dancing the night away to the sound of your favourite local Irish band. But it’s also a good way to start curing the inevitable hangover with a banging brunch the next morning. The Irish were on to something when they invented the fry up, and the Dubh Linn Gate’s version does not disappoint. They also serve an excellent smoked salmon bagel, and we love their buttermilk pancakes too. If the giant breakfast doesn’t help you feel a little more human, don’t worry, there’s plenty of hair of the dog available too. The Caesar’s here are guaranteed to clear your head, or maybe you just want to get straight back on the Guinness – we won’t judge you!

Alpine Cafe

Alpine Cafe is a true locals favourite, hidden away in one of the best neighbourhoods in town. You’ll need to take a trip out of the village, but it’s worth it, both for the food, the relaxed vibes, and the glimpse into the life of a Whistler local. Their homemade, hearty food is great at any time of day, but we love brunch the best. Maybe it’s the huge variety in their menu, or the fresh ingredients, or the friendly, welcoming service. Or maybe it’s just that these guys know how to cook a mean breakfast, whether you choose the breaky burrito, the SLAM (scrambled eggs, bacon and potato on french toast) or the delicious vanilla french toast. Alpine Cafe is a great option for families too, with affordable prices all around, and some great kids options.

Southside Diner

There are few things more Canadian than a diner, and few diners better than Southside. Step through the door and you’re transported to a simpler time when lift lines were shorter, beers were cheaper and you could ski fresh powder all day. Alas, times change, but the delicious breakfast at Southside will be sure to satisfy your nostalgia and your hunger. As well as the retro vibes, Southside boasts a serious menu and serious portion sizes. Whatever you’re craving, you’ll find it here, from their Big Ass Pancakes (they really are big) to Huevos Rancheros, Eggs Bennies and a few healthy options too if that’s your thing. Based in Creekside, Southside is a great spot to stop in on your way to the gondola first thing in the morning.

A perfect, easy stop off for family breakfast before a big day on the mountain, or a big day lying by a lake. Wild Wood’s cozy atmosphere, local produce and huge menu are guaranteed to please everyone. Plus they’re open from 7am, so there’s no excuse to miss the first lift if that’s your thing. There’s loads of choice here, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, and no less than nine different eggs benedicts! You’ll be able to keep the kids happy too, with their child-sized portions of all their best dishes including pancakes, french toast and their classic fried breakfast. Crystal Hut

You have to put a little bit of legwork in to enjoy the brunch at the Crystal Hut, but it’s worth it. On a sunny day, head up Blackcomb Mountain and over towards the Crystal chairlift. Once you’ve got a couple of laps in, you’ll have earned your trip to the Crystal Hut. They deserve a mention here for two reasons. One – the stunning views from their patio, best enjoyed with a hot chocolate. And two – their truly over the top (and truly tasty) waffles. The portions are massive, but you’ll manage it after some early morning piste-cruising. Top them with berries, whipped cream, banana and even bacon. Just leave time to digest the food – and the views – before you try to ski again.

Stones Edge

If you’re feeling indulgent, Stonesedge is the place to go. Not only is their evening cocktail menu totally killer, but they follow it up with an epic brunch offering to cure your aching head (more suggestions on Whistler Cocktail menu’s here) There are few places where you can pick between a breakfast pizza and genuinely healthy and delicious granola, but Stonesedge is one of them. The atmosphere here just begs you to stick around for a lazy morning, and a couple of breakfast drinks to top off your meal. So it’s lucky their mimosas are excellent, as is the Caesar, which comes topped with basically another meal in itself. And if you need a serious pick-me-up, how about the Breakfast Grenade – three shots dropped in an iced coffee? The blurry eyes and banging headache will be gone in no time.

Gone Whistler Village Eatery

Gone is another favourite locals haunt, and the best place to pick up a tasty, healthy brunch on the go. This little cafe is tucked away next to the grocery store, and while it might not look like much from the outside, it boasts one of the best brunch menus in town. Vegans and vegetarians will be especially excited, as Gone’s variations on a classic cooked breakfast are some of the best in town. That brunch staple – the avocado – features heavily in the menu, and it’s all the better for it. Plus, their breakfast bites are filling, delicious and very affordable – it’s only $5.50 for their avocado toast, and it will keep you going for hours. These guys know how to cook a great, healthy breakfast, so make sure you fit in a trip while you’re in Whistler.
