A Romantic Whistler Honeymoon | Plan a Perfect Getaway
Whistler is increasingly a world-renowned location for a destination weddings, but it’s also a destination for couples planning their great romantic post-wedding escape. While many conventional couples still plan for a beach-bound honeymoon, you might want to consider other luxury destinations – like Whistler – for your big indulgence. A Whistler honeymoon is like no other experience, with a little something for everyone.
Nestled in between the majestic coastal mountains of British Columbia, Whistler has a lot to offer newlyweds. From romantic five-star meals to scenic landscapes suitable for any adventure, and of course, a host of activities to keep you both entertained. And yes, Whistler is an incredible year-round destination, even if you don’t ski or snowboard. There are plenty of activities, rain, snow, and sun, for the skier and the non-skier alike.
We’ve gleaned some insights from the many newlyweds who have walked through our doors, and we also know a thing or two about this hometown of ours. The snowy peaks, the valley trails, and everything in between. Here’s why a Whistler honeymoon is one for the books.
What Makes Whistler the Perfect Honeymoon Destination
Landscape
Seriously. The deep dark ancient forests. The crystal clear summer lake days. The snow-capped mountains. You could have a worse backdrop for your honeymoon pics. We doubt you’ll need it, but we’ve got a few suggestions on where to catch a memorable photo on your Whistler honeymoon. But the landscape also makes us the place to be for outdoor adventures. Romantic snowshoe adventures, glorious hikes to the summit, monstrous waterfalls to visit, and apparently the best skiing in the world. Our great Canadian landscape makes Whistler an awe-inspiring place for a romantic getaway.
Activities
In a perfect world, you and your partner would love the same sports, with the same intensity, and have the same skill level. In the real world, this isn’t always the case. Maybe you love to ski, and they like to hike. Or your skill set just doesn’t compare to their stamina on the slopes. Whistler, unlike many other mountain towns, caters to both worlds. It has a town filled with non-skiing activities from the extreme (ziplining) to the mellow (spas). Summer and winter, there are more activities for you both to explore than you’ll have time to squeeze in.
Luxury
Make Whistler your dream honeymoon destination, and plan to sit in the lap of luxury. From the Bearfoot Bistro’s one-of-a-kind Champagne Sabering experience to a couples massage day at the Scandinave Spa to a fully catered heli-ski trip, Whistler knows a thing or two about luxury vacations. Check with your hotel to explore their Whistler honeymoon packages, and see what lavish adventures are in store for you.
Getting to Whistler
There are two recommendations on how to get Whistler, depending on where you are arriving from, the road conditions, and your budget.
Drive
Most newlyweds travel to Whistler via the Vancouver International Airport (YVR). It’s only a two-hour trip, and one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world. Why not rent a car for your adventure, and stop at many of the memorable attractions along the Sea to Sky Highway. Waterfalls, cliff top gondolas, and breweries await you.
From the airport, head north on highway 99. Make sure in the winter months your rental car company knows you are headed to Whistler, as snow tires are legally required.
Airport Shuttle
Maybe you are nervous driving in snow or don’t want to take on any of the stress of highway driving during your honeymoon. There are many, many, options available to get you straight from the airport and deposit you safe and sound in Whistler. Check out Pacific Coach or Epic Rides for a budget-friendly option, or invest in a private shuttle with Benz Whistler or legacy limousine. Depending on service, they can accommodate large luggage (mountain bikes, snow gear) and offer meet and greet service at the airport.
Whistler Hotel Honeymoon Packages
The best news about Whistler accommodations is the sheer variety. If you’ve got an old ski-resort image in your mind, with musty furniture and dark carpets – think again.
