Field Trips and Education Groups

Be a hero to your students and organize a field trip they will never forget!

Looking to spice up your next field trip?

How can my students benefit from axe throwing?

General Core Competencies:

Communication:

  • Throwers need to communicate with the others in their lane letting them know when they’re finished throwing and signalling when it’s the next person’s turn.
  • Students learn the importance of safety and following instructions.

Physical:

  • While it is a sport, it is something that everyone can try their hand in.  (You don’t need to be a jock!).
  • It’s not a race; while it can be competitive (everyone wants to hit the target), you’re also in competition with yourself (will your second throw be better than your first)?

Thinking:

  • Students learn the dynamics of what is involved in throwing (body placement, focus, follow-through) and raise questions to achieve their goal (reaching the target).

Personal & Social:

  • Students will learn to appreciate their space & needs along with those of their classmates.  Everyone can throw an axe but it may not come as easily to others.  With encouragement and support, their can deepen their relationships.

Social Responsibility:

  • Learning the importance of safety for not just themselves but others.  Rules are not to be glossed over or “ya ya” ignored; they play a role and need to be respected.

Stewardship of the Environment:

  • Learning the difference between different kinds of wood used in axe throwing such as pine, cottonwood, and poplar and the characteristics of each.

Grades 5-9 (specific):

Physical Literacy:

  • Students learn to manage risk while following safety standards.
  • Students will learn adaptation as they attempt to make several different types of throws.
  • Students will utilize stability skills as they learn the correct positioning required to throw an axe.

Health & Active Living:

  • Students practice their oral and visual skills while self-assessing their needs to hit the target (level of intensity needed behind the throw).

Grades 10-12 (specific):

Physical Literacy:

  • Students learn to manage risk while learning trick shots in a safe environment.
  • Students will utilize stability skills as they learn the correct positioning required to throw an axe.

Health & Active Living:

  • Students practice their oral and visual skills while self-assessing their needs to hit the target (level of intensity needed behind the throw).
  • Students can set goals on the types of throws they want to achieve successfully and what is required physically of them in order to do so.

Social Responsibility:

  • Students learn the value of collaboration and teamwork as they encourage their classmates to achieve their goals.
  • Students learn responsible behaviour in a public venue.
  • Through individual challenges, students will learn to manage their risk.

Safety:

  • Students learn to manage their comfort level with regards to risk.
  • Students learn coping strategies to adapt to knowing that certain activities pose a level of risk.

Leadership:

  • Students will see that not everyone is at the same comfort or physical level of their peers and will be encouraged to coach them and support them in achieving their goals.

We had an awesome time!

We scheduled this during our corporate retreat and we had a blast. It was so fun learning the different throws and playing the games. Joe is so fun and was a great teacher. I would come here over and over again. We got the charcuterie board and it was AMAZING. We also had a couple drinks and hung out in their outdoor space after our session. I would highly recommend!

I must have been the last one to get the memo on how fun this is!

Had never heard of it before, and trying to figure out a corporate team building event at Whistler that wasn't skiing and not golf led me here. Jackie was terrific as our host/safety coordinator/games-master, and the 2 hours flew by (yep, pun intended). Thank you to James, and the rest of the Forged Axe Team for a truly memorable time. P.S. Should I be alarmed at just how much some of my colleagues enjoyed this??

Lots of fun!

This place is lots of fun! We had a big group and they booked us the private party room next to the bar! Our host, Christina (hope I got that right) was super friendly and encouraging and really made it a fun event for the whole bunch of us. We had a couple of people make the Wall of Fame so that was neat. It's really well-organized and makes good use of the time you have available. Their bar has a pretty good selection of drinks and prices are reasonable.
